A plethora of factors are instrumental in accelerating the trend of smoking across the world. The most prominent factors responsible for the rise in smoking addict people are mentioned below:
  • Addiction to the harmful chemical nicotine abundantly present in cigarettes and other tobacco containing substances
  • The belief that smoking helps to combat stress and anxiety

Smoking & Erectile Dysfunction: A Statistical Overview

Researches carried out to evaluate the relationship between smoking and erectile dysfunction have derived the following results:

  • Reports submitted by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) and the British Medical Association (BMA) states that on account of smoking, 120,000 men in the UK within the age group 30-40 have fallen in the grip of erectile dysfunction.
  • Experiments conducted on men in their 30s and 40s also point out that smoking increases the risk of impotency in them by 50%.

How Does Smoking Lead To Erectile Dysfunction?

As a person smokes a cigarette, nicotine enters the blood and restricts blood flow to the penis as well as prohibits the storage of enough blood inside the penile tissues and erectile dysfunction becomes the ultimate result.

Nicotine stimulates the brain and with the stimulation of the brain, a process known as acute vasospasm, i. e. the contraction in the penile tissues and the prevention of blood inflow to the penis is initiated and the person becomes utterly incapable of setting off the necessary erections. Venous dilation also occurs as a result of nicotine intake and during this process; nicotine destroys the valve mechanism that stores blood inside the penis thus ultimately leading the person towards impotency.
